Welcome
to Waggy Tales
of Fantasy and Fun for All Ages
Today's
Tales is Bernie the Easter Bunny.... A week
or so ago I noticed a new family of rabbits in the field behind
my house with the young ones frolicing in the field, racing
around, and chasing each other much as any children might
do. However, this family was unusual because one of the young
ones is black. He can't hide like the others as he sticks
out like a sore thumb, so I've been concerned as to his safety,
since we have all sorts of predators for a small bunny, such
as the hawks, and the foxes, well even my own cats might notice
that little one sittingas he does on the side of the hill
facing my garden. Anyway, he has been christened Bernie by
me. It is this little Bernie that the tales are about...there
are more tales to come. I've already unsuccessfully tried
to get a photo of him for you to see, but my camera is not
good at long distances. I will keep trying though. However,
I have put a picture of Little MO above for you to see! The
tales are the stories of Little Black Bernie. Do visit my
site for more of them as he grows up. The sound and E-Book
files will soon be online too.
Bernie was chasing his best friend Little Mo across the field
behind my house when we all saw it. There was this amazing
flash of light, then, right in front of the gorse bush, which
was next to the Magpie's home, there appeared an apparition.
Not, I might add, the usual kind of apparition, but a very
extraordinary one instead. For there she stood. The whitest,
largest, and most beautiful sheep you could imagine, and on
her neck she wore a gorgeous emerald which dangled from a
golden chain. Well, stunned and quite shaken, both Little
Mo and Bernie stopped dead in their tracks to stare at her,
both totally speechless.
With
mouths and eyes wide open, the two friends stood silently
looking at her. I didn't hear a thing, though they both postiively
declared afterwards that the sheep actually spoke to them,
but all I noticed was that the light around her seemed to
wave about rather a lot before she disappeared.
Anyway,
according to Bernie, she looked at him and smiled, then began
to speak, saying, " You are a very special Bunny Rabbit
Bernie. In all of creation there is life in many forms, many
creatures too, but none so lucky as you today. You are going
to lead the world in a new era. The time of Fluffy Tails is
about to begin". Well, Bernie didn't have a clue what
she was talking about, but was far to polite to interrupt
or ask, so he just carried on politely standing there with
his little head bowed in case she was a mighty Queen or someone
important like that.
The
misty light around the Sheep swirled as she spoke, this time
reaching out towards Bernie, as she laid her foot gently on
Bernie's head. " Don't be afraid, little friend, you
have been chosen for a mighty task, but we all have great
faith that you, one of our gentlest creatures, can accomplish
it. When I leave you, you are to look under the old log next
to the gorse bush. Take what you find there and place it outside
the door of the first house you come to in the village. Remember,
each time you put it down at the door of a house wait until
your next one appears. It will do, you'll see. Then carry
on taking them to each house in the village. When you are
finished give your last one to another rabbit to take on to
the next village where they are to do the same. Happy Easter
Bernie," she said smilingly as she began to fade away.
My
goodness Bernie and Little Mo were quite overcome. Needless
to say they rushed to look under the old log, just like the
sheep had said to do. What do you think they found there?
Well, I can tell you they were quite surprised to find nothing
but a small bird's egg. However, Bernie thought it would be
fun to try doing what he'd been told , so he and his friend
set off to leave it outside Lilac Cottage, the first house
they had come to, which was the home of Megan and her brother
Ian. They put the egg down beside the front door. It seemed
this was going to be an easy task, since once the egg was
placed by the door, they could just be on their way and go
back to their game of Tig, but, no, nothing was going to be
that easy. Oh, No, not that easy at all. No sooner had the
egg touched the ground by the children's front door, than
another egg appeared in Bernie's paw. "Oh, my, said MO,
looks like we really are going to have our work cut out for
us this time, Bernie."
From
house to house they went with the eggs appearing in Bernie's
hand every time he deposited one outside each door, until
finally, they came to the last house in th village. Bernie
placed the egg at its front door, then as he turned round
he noticed Danny, the youngest son of Mrs. Ruby rabbit. He
turned to Danny, called him over, and told him to take the
egg as fast as he could to the next village where he was to
place it at the first house he came to. "I don't think
I can do that, Bernie, because my mum will be wooried if I'm
gone as long as that" "Oh, don't worry, Danny, I'll
pop over to see your mother right now. She won't mind a bit.
I'll explain it all to her"
Well,
Danny was a bit of a lazy fellow, but he did as he was asked
and in no time at all he had delivered eggs to every single
house. Then he passed the job on to another rabbit, and so
it went on until every house in the whole world had an egg
left ouside its door. Now, here is the really amazing thing
about it all. When morning came and each front door was opened,
low and behold, on every single front doorstep was, not just
any egg, but the most beautiful Chocolate Easter egg anyone
had ever seen, and guess what? Even Bernie and Mo had a chocolate
Easter egg sitting outside their own front door.
All
over the world children were delighted with their eggs. However,
the really wonderful thing about this tale is what happened
to the rabbits, for from that day on Rabbits everywhere became
famous for their amazing deliveries of Easter Eggs once a
year at Easter time. Even to this very day Easter eggs are
delivered by the Easter Bunny. Bernie, of course was the most
famous Easter Bunny of them all because he was the first Easter
Bunny as well as being the only one to whom the Magical Sheep
had spoken
There
are more Berie and Mo Tales to come. I'm just a bit slow getting
them uploaded.
