E-Book Tales For Children

Sparky the Squirrel (See Sparky's Photos on the left of your Screen)

Today's tale isn't a tale at all, it's REAL!!!! A baby squirrel was found nearly dead in our garden. He was so young that he didn't even have any teeth, which as you may know, all squirrels need for eating nuts, and other tasty snacks. He was so tiny that noone knew whether it was possible to save him or not. There are lots of pictures of Sparky and more to come online as he grows up. I didn't take any pictures of him when he was first rescued so he's grown a bit since the family first met him, still never mind, he's here now for you to see. Well, here's what saved the little fellow's life....

Sparky's First Days

When Sparky was found lying on the ground he was dying. He had no teeth and noone knew what on earth he could be fed to revive him . At first he was fed Whiskas cat milk through a baby syringe. He was placed in a hamster cage with a blanket and fluffy teddy to try to keep him warm, but he began to get weaker and weaker, so cold that he seemed almost dead. He lay stretched out in pain with very bad diarroehea. He couldn't possibly survive. Well, so everyone thought.

BUT....desperate as she was to save the little fellow, his rescuer gave him syringed water every hour plus a child's orange build-up tonic called Minadex. Sparky was placed on a hot water bottle which was kept constanly warm, and wrapped in his soft babys blanket. He had no body warmth of his own at all at this stage.

Eventually he began to rally round, so that after some long time, he was getting more active. Soon some teeth began to grow which changed his life entirely as he developed a love of grapes, melon, nectarines, (All soft fruit).

One day he found a snickers bar on the table and soon Snickers became another treat for hime, along with Flapjacks, and Almonds. He has never liked Acorns though, but he daoes have a passion for Malted Milk biscuits.

He's now a healthy little chap who has the freedom of the house where he roams in and out of everything. If you look at the pictures of Sparky, you will see how very tame he is.

He loves playing hide and seek in the duvet, under cushions, and in his bed. He's also extremely active, especially when he decides to whiz across the room leaping from one persons head to another!!!! His favourite touchy feely thing is to have his little tummy tickled, and second to that is to be held in your hands so that you can rub his ears. He screws up his little face for his ear scratching sessions, so that you can tell he's just loving every minute of it!

When I was holding Sparky I tickled his back, but this is like a signal for him to get angry, so when you do tickle his back, he growls at you. He has a very gentle nature, and just loves everyone, even the dog!

Naturally, as any self respecting animal would, he does beg at the table!!! No sooner is a meal set on the table than Sparky dashes through to see if there is some for him! As Sparky grows and develops I will be putting more pictures online for you to look at. I do hope you enjoy them...
